Positive Party DJs F.A.Q.
The Clean Music Movement simply means we play family-friendly music. That doesn't just mean we play the edited versions of the song, it means we don't play inappropriate songs at all. Check out our Permanent Do Not Play List, Grey Area List, or Typically Played list.
The short answer is yes. We take your special event seriously. Our management team and your selected DJ will spend over 20 - 35 hours preparing for your event to ensure everything goes according to plan.
We are a part of the clean music movement so we don't play songs with cursing or explicit lyrics. Other than that, you are in control of the music. You will have access to your personalized online planner page on our website so you can create a list of songs that must be played and even songs you don’t want to be heard. We can either create a playlist based on the songs you chose or only play the songs you want.
We are experienced in many methods of inviting everyone to the dance floor including playing time-tested hit songs and even starting the dancing ourselves. We are skilled at reading the crowd and keeping the energy high through the use of a wide range of approved genres.
Should you allow guests to request songs, we can provide you with a link to pass along to them. Your guests can pick songs before your event and you can approve them. During your event, we have a DJ assistant who can field requests for the DJ to play them at the appropriate time.
We hate the awkward silences even more than you do. We enjoy blending songs together seamlessly in order to keep the energy high. Check out our music demos and videos on our DJ profile pages.
We use the best audio equipment so you hear every word nice, crisp, and at the perfect volume. We test every piece of equipment before every performance, set up early and conduct a sound test, and bring backup equipment just in case.
We have performed at most venues in Acadiana, Baton Rouge, New Orleans & the surrounding areas but if we have not performed at your venue we set up a site visit at least a few weeks before your event. We also develop a professional relationship with the owners/managers of the venues to be sure we comply with any rules or regulations they may have. Lastly, we go over the layout of the venue with you during our last meeting to ensure audio perfection.
We have multiple DJs that you can choose for your event. We can also contract out some of the other best performers in the state that perform who uphold our high standards. We are in the process of expanding our team now so we will soon have even more options for you. This event is about you and we will do whatever it takes to make it unforgettable.
We offer more inclusive services in our packages than most other entertainment companies. We also affiliate ourselves with the best in the business so that we can get you everything you need.
We put you, the client, first. Our only mission is to go above your expectations & beyond the DJ booth to create an exciting, unique, and conscientious musical experience fine tailored to your special event.
General Music / DJ Industry F.A.Q.
You could spend about $600 on a DJ for their weddings, but averages are misleading. DJ prices can range from as low as $500 to upwards of $6,000 across the country. It is typical that the higher the skill level and experience a DJ has, the more they are able to charge.
The industry standard is to require a deposit upfront and the balance either before or at the event.
Every DJ has their own reasons for their prices but generally they must take account of the following
- Reputation: If you know the DJ's name, it's because they have spend years building their name.
- Location / Venue: In bigger cities you will pay a higher price for even the lower skilled DJs. Bigger venues and unique layouts may require a DJ to have more equipment to get the job done.
- Time / Availability: If a DJ is in demand, then they are more likely to increase their prices. You also may have to be more flexible with your dates or book further in advance.
- Equipment: Every prepared DJ has to purchase and maintain mixing equipment & software, laptop(s), speakers, cables, travel cases, & transportation. In addition they may have to rent or purchase lighting, DJ booth, projectors, Karaoke, and more. It usually cost about $2,000 to acquire the initial equipment and $350 per month in upkeep.
- Music: Assuming the DJ does not steal music, they must keep up with all the latest and the greatest tracks. There are millions of songs produced every year and thousands of songs that are popularized at a time.
- Insurance: Most reputable venues, and experienced DJs, require liability insurance. Smart DJs will also have equipment insurance to protect against loss, thief, or malfunctions.
It's our bias opinion that you should always hire a DJ! But on a serious note, it depends on your event and your preference. Bands are good a creating a live vibe but they do command the attention. DJs are better at variety and focusing the attention elsewhere and usually require less space. Band will almost always cost more than DJs but that usually depends on the numbers of musicians. Live music from a band will raise the excitement level for the guest. Most professional DJs will have a good stage presence but they are better able to keep the party going no matter what.
Lone professional DJs are hungry and survive on their DJ money. They are more likely to ensure nothing goes wrong with your event because their livelihood is one the line. However, they are usually solo-entrepreneurs. They must take care of everything themselves and if they don't manage their time as well as they should your event could suffer.
Companies with multiple DJs on staff usually relive their DJs of the stress of finding, booking, and managing their events. As a result, they can spend more time improving their skill level. However, they are usually not as concerned with their reputation so they are not as motivated as lone DJs.
